EXPLORE HALEAKALĀ NATIONAL PARK

Soaring amid the clouds at 10,023 feet above sea level, Haleakala the "house of the sun" earns a spot as one of the world’s tallest mountains when you measure it from the ocean floor. It’s a natural wonder that stretches from Upcountry Maui to the southeastern coast of the island.

This is where you go for one of the most iconic sunrise or sunset on the Islands, framed by vivid colors and natural landscapes. For an additional challenge, don a helmet and feel the wind in your wings on the longest downhill bike experience in the world. The park goes from lush valleys to cinder cone-strewn volcanic deserts and ancient lava flows, making it beautifully biodiverse and incredibly special.

Dawn and dusk are both spectacular experiences at Haleakalā’s summit with the clouds drifting beneath you. The colors are incredibly vivid, lighting up everything the sun touches. Sunrise viewings need reservations and although you don’t need reservations for sunsets, they’re just as popular so plan ahead.

  2. Bird Watching

Birders of all ages are in for a treat. Endemic seabirds and forest fowl seek safety and resources in Haleakalā’s protected habitats. You might spot or hear Nēnē (Hawaiian Geese), rainbow hued honeycreepers, and ʻUaʻu (Hawaiian Petrels) on their daily routines.

  3. Hiker in summit crater

    Hiking

With over 30 miles of hiking trails among the natural habitat of endemic plants and native birds, the summit area of Haleakalā National Park has a path for any level hiker to experience. Be sure to take your time getting used to higher altitudes and be ready for all kinds of climates.
